Why the IP layer decides the outcome
IP reputation vs. account reputation
IP reputation decays in hours to days and is cleared by rotation or time: a residential IP can absorb a few bad requests without lasting damage.
Account reputation decays in weeks to months and is cleared by nothing except rebuilding from zero – one ban wave erases trust that took months to earn.

Rotation mistakes that trigger bans
Platforms do not see "rotation"; they see behavior. One user changing IPs between two clicks leads to mid-session bans. The same cookies arriving from a new IP cause session invalidation and forced re-login.

Anti-fraud systems read the whole picture. A residential IP in Germany combined with an en-US browser and an America/New_York timezone gets flagged.
A mobile IP in Tokyo behind a headless Chrome fingerprint clicking every 400 ms gets flagged. A datacenter IP with an iPhone canvas hash and activity at 3 AM local time gets flagged.
What passes as a real Berlin user is a different combination: a German residential IP plus a de-DE browser, a Europe/Berlin timezone, and human-speed clicks during local hours. Geo-targeting down to city and ISP is what makes this alignment possible.

Scraping behind Cloudflare
A scraper running from a single IP usually survives the first few hundred requests, then 403 and 429 responses start; cloudscraper, header spoofing, and user-agent rotation stop working once the IP is flagged at the edge.
Cloudflare reads the IP first: if the address belongs to a hosting provider, the request is treated as bot traffic regardless of how the headers look. Rotating residential IPs change that assessment entirely because the request arrives from a consumer ISP.
Antidetect browsers still need the right IP layer
An antidetect browser isolates cookies, randomizes canvas, and spoofs the user-agent. It does not touch the TLS handshake from the Chromium engine, the request timing from your script, or the binding between the IP and the fingerprint – and services like Fingerprint.com and Castle now detect known antidetect signatures directly.
Most setups fail because the antidetect is configured per profile, while the IP layer is shared across all of them. Each profile needs its own IP with matching geo – exactly what per-city and per-ISP targeting provides.
